Is a TEFL certification hard?

There is not a plain yes or no answer to this question, unfortunately,  as everyone undertaking a TEFL certification is different. Everyone has different skill levels, various methods of learning and most importantly, different ways of digesting information. There are also many reasons someone might be asking 'are TEFL courses hard?'

What one person might find straightforward, another might find difficult. A TEFL certification involves an array of learning, from practical learning to revising written information. You might glide through practical learning, but struggle with the written information, or vice-versa.

There are several differing reasons why you might find a TEFL course challenging, which is all mentioned below, but we also touch on what you can do to make it easier.

Academic understanding

When working towards your TEFL certification, you are expected to complete set assignments. Your academic understanding is paramount here as you will need to finish the assignments to a high enough level to pass.

Luckily, you can accomplish this aim by incorporating time management, commitment and revision into your schedule. Not only will those key points help, but our team of experienced professors will be on hand to help as well.

A few more tips to help you gain your certification include:

  • Block out a period of your day to go over your work
  • Set deadlines for yourself
  • Ask for help when you are struggling
  • Take your time to absorb the information

Time

A reason you might find a TEFL difficult has nothing to do with the course itself. You might struggle due to time restraints. Maybe you have a full-time job, are studying or have kids depending on you. All these variables, plus more, could reduce the amount of free time you have. This means that you will have less time available to absorb the information and study properly.

You have to put the hours in to obtain your qualifications, which might mean you have to rearrange your schedule where possible to fit in dedicated studying hours. If you try to pack everything into your day, you will find it difficult to pass as you are putting too much strain on yourself.

Time management is critical and should be applied when undertaking your TEFL qualification. We are here to offer guidance when you are struggling.

Level of English

You might find a TEFL easy or difficult, depending on your current level of English. If you still struggle with English, maybe because it is not your first language, you might find that the course material is more difficult for you than someone who speaks English fluently.

Authentic and high-quality TEFL qualifications will consider your understanding. They will recommend an option that suits you, and an experienced team member will help you at each stage if you are struggling.
