One of the best things about living in Manchester is that there is always plenty to do. That’s one of the reasons why our English Language School in Manchester is so popular all year round. It doesn’t matter the time, the month or even the weather, for those who call Manchester their home, finding a way to spend the day or night, comes easily.
This Christmas period is no different. In fact, if you’re thinking about what to do during the festive season then why not check out our list of the top 5 things to do in Manchester over the festive period?
Things to do in Manchester at Christmas
1. Take a walk around the Christmas Markets
Whilst we might not have the same size Christmas Markets as some of our European cousins, there is still plenty of festive cheer to be soaked up at the Manchester Markets. They start in November, and run right through to the 20th December, and bring a variety of stalls for you to take a look through. Not only will there be plenty of gluhwein, but there will also be a number of gifts and treats in the stalls too.
2. Have a magical time at Dunham Massey
Just because it gets dark earlier, that doesn’t mean that your chance to enjoy some festive cheer has gone. In fact, if you head to Dunham Massey after dark then you will be in for a treat. This illuminated experience comes with a sparkling trail of singing trees, twinkling lights and perhaps even a glimpse of the big jolly man himself. It runs right up to Christmas Eve and there are also festive drinks and snacks there too!
3. Get your skates on at the ice rink
Manchester is yet another city in the UK which is embracing the outdoor skating rink. The location can change from year to year (currently at First Street) yet the 70ft by 50ft rink can hold up to 100 skaters and is open to those with all different abilities. There are also lots of places that you can head to for an after skate drink or snack.
4. The Curious Teepee
Love the idea of being able to enjoy a drink or two with friends? Not sure that you want to head to yet another bar? Why not use Christmas in Manchester as a chance to try out something a little different? The Curious Teepee can be found in Spinningfields and is quite possibly the cosiest place we have ever seen. Here you will find fur throws, fairy lights and even fire pits. Everything that you would need to get you in the Christmas spirit.
5. Elf The Musical at the Lowry
Who doesn’t love a good Christmas movie? What if you could see one on the stage instead? Elf, the musical has been a big hit up and down the country, and this December it is playing at the Lowry. It might not be the most serious piece of theatre you will ever see, but it is great fun and the ideal way to get in the Christmas mood!
So, as you can see, no matter how cold and grey it is outside, there is always something to get you feeling warm and festive in Manchester.
