Easy Trips from York Without a Car

You don’t need a car to reach some of the best parts of Britain! All locations are easily accessible by train or bus, giving you access to some of the best British locations less than 3 hours away from York.  Happy travelling!

1. Leeds, Scarborough, Durham and Newcastle

Discover great shopping and vibrant social scenes in these North Eastern cities, all of which are a quick and easy train ride away from York!

Leeds: 30 minutes by train
Scarborough: 50 minutes by train
Durham: 45 minutes by train
Newcastle: 1 hour by train

2. Whitby

Visit the port and fishing town of Whitby in North Yorkshire, where Captain James Cook learned how to sail the seas, and whose famous cliff-top Abbey inspired the novel ‘Dracula’!

3. Knaresborough

Explore the beautiful cobbled streets of scenic Knaresborough, a historic market and spa town in North Yorkshire.  While you are there, visit the Castle or hire a boat and go punting!

4. Scotland

Discover the land of haggis, kilts and bagpipes in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. Great all year round, Edinburgh particularly comes alive in August during the world-famous Edinburgh Festivals.

5. Flamingo Land

Love theme parks?  Go to Yorkshire’s most popular theme park, complete with roller coasters, water rides and a zoo!
