Advanced Language & Methodology for Secondary & University Teachers
Course Contents
Intensive two-week course for secondary school/HE teachers, including 20 lessons of methodology, materials evaluation and 7 lessons project work, classroom observation and cultural visits.
The course content will vary according to the particular needs, teaching contexts and interests of the group. However, there are standard components that are taught on every course. These are:
- Ways of teaching grammar
- Teaching speaking & listening
- Project work
- Current ELT methodology
- Writing ideas and activities
- Exploiting literature for the classroom
NB: We ask all participants to complete a detailed pre-course needs analysis.
The course enables participants to:
- Gain confidence in and improve their use of the English language
- Reflect critically on current language teaching methodology and stimulate continuing professional development.
- Share ideas and promote greater self-awareness as teachers.
- Explore and evaluate materials and resources and expand the range of classroom activities available to the teacher.
The course employs an extensive range of resources including CALL, ELT methodology materials as well as general English books, CDs and DVDs. Current language teaching methodology will reflect participants' classroom practice. We take a 'loop input' and heuristic approach to these courses. All sessions contribute towards both language learning and pedagogy.
