New Junior Centre for Summer 2011

Summer 2011 will see a new addition for our junior programmes - Wycliffe College in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

This independent boarding school set within the amazing backdrop of the Stroud Valley, will be open during July and August 2011 for our young learners aged 8-16 years old.

We will be providing courses from both the junior school (8-11 years old) and the senior school (12-16 years old) with both programmes being located just a short walk away from the other.

The exciting addition of our "Family Programme" will also be launched at Wycliffe allowing both parents and their children to be taught in their respective adult and junior classes at the same time. A number of exciting afternoon activities and excursions will also be available for families to take part in also including excursions and sports and activities for the children.

Wycliffe itself boasts some impressive facilities including ensuite bedrooms as well as larger accommodation, a new sports centre complete with squash courts, a modern dining room, excellent learning and IT facilities together with a theatre, and plenty of beautiful green space.

The town of Stonehouse is ideally located between Bristol and Oxford and is within easy reach of many of the UK's most visited towns and cities. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Cardiff as well as London will all form part of the excursion prgramme offered at Wycliffe.

The centre really is an ideal place for our young learners to live and study in a safe, secure, beautiful campus.

BSC Wins the LTM Award

British Study Centres Voted 'Star' School of Western Europe!

British Study Centres was voted top English language school in Western Europe at a glittering ceremony at London's Hilton on Park Lane on Saturday evening. British Study Centres beat thousands of other schools and colleges to win the coveted 'Star' award which is voted for by readers of Language Travel Magazine.

'This is a huge honour for us,' commented Andrew Roper, Managing Director of British Study Centres, who collected the award on behalf of the company. 'I'm completely overcome! The award is open to all English language schools in Western Europe so to have been voted number one 'Star School' is just incredible and is testament to the high quality of teaching and student services at our schools.'

British Study Centres was shortlisted along with four other schools for the prestigious award, these were: International House London, Galway Cultural Institute, Centre for English Studies Dublin and United International College London.

'I have to confess that the competition was so stiff I really didn't think we would win and had no speech prepared!' said a delighted Andrew. 'I would like to say a very big thank you to our agents and to everyone who voted for us and to all of our staff who made this happen. We have the most incredibly talented 'can-do' team of teachers, directors, marketing and student services staff. It will be Champagne all round in our schools this week!'

Mr. Conor Burns MP's Visit to BSC Bournemouth

MP Visits BSC Bournemouth

BSC Bournemouth today gave a very warm welcome to Mr. Conor Burns MP [center of the photo], Member of Parliament for the Bournemouth West constituency. Mr. Burns was met by both Andrew Roper and Roland Sharp, with whom he spoke openly of his thoughts on the language travel business.

With language tourism featuring very highly on Bournemouth's list of top industries, it was extremely reassuring to hear Mr. Burns speaking of his desire to challenge recent government rulings; namely the 'Learn English to learn English' debacle whereby long term visa national students must have already attained a B1 level of English in order to study! Mr. Burns proved to be extremely well versed on the topic of language schools and their business model, and expressed his concern over the immigration restrictions and the effect this would have upon his constituents. He spoke very confidently of assisting the new government in finding a fairer solution to present to the UK Border Agency and was keen to see Bournemouth become 'a centre of learning'.

All in all, it was a very pleasant and productive meeting with more planned for the future. Many thanks to Mr. Burns for taking the time to visit us and of course we wish him well in his mission!

Bournemouth School's Opening Party

Bournemouth's Opening Night

Thursday 12th August saw a gathering of 50 people made up from agents, staff, local suppliers and all those who worked so hard to make BSC Bournemouth's first summer such a huge success. With a string quartet playing in the background the guests drank bucks fizz to toast the new school while a wonderful finger buffet was laid on for people to nibble.

Company Chairman, Simon Cleaver, spoke of his local links and touched upon the history of the organisation which really highlighted the family feel of the group and epitomises the atmosphere of the Bournemouth school. With such strong foundations we are sure the Bournemouth school will continue to flourish and consolidate the strength of British Study Centres Group.
