Our Newest School, BSC Bournemouth

New School in Bournemouth!

We are delighted to announce the opening of a new year-round school for adults in the beautiful south coast town of Bournemouth! The new school will open in April 2010 and will be housed over two floors (please see floor plans for more details) of a stylish newly-refurbished Victorian building in the town centre, just 200 metres from the shops and cafés and only ten minutes walk from the beach.

The town of Bournemouth has long been famous for its stretches of sandy beaches, its lively nightlife and outstanding surrounding countryside and we are thrilled to have secured premises in such a prime location. The school will be managed by our newly-appointed School Director, Roland Sharp, who joins us on 15 February. Keep an eye on the news page for photos as we get everything ready for the big opening in April!

Pink Day

Supporting Cancer Research

'Wear it Pink' is a fun and simple way to raise funds for research into breast cancer. This has been an annual event at our school for the past four years and this year was no exception.

On Friday 31 October 2009, students and staff at British Study Centres London all arrived at school wearing an item of clothing in the colour pink in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign, the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the UK.

On the day staff members in student services brought along home baked pink cupcakes which were given to anyone who made an additional donation of 50p or more while Students in each class kindly donated £2 and took the time to either buy or borrow an item of pink clothing in order to show their support. We are proud to say that West London College, our sister school, joined the cause this year and helped us raise in total £557.87.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their efforts and donations and we look forward to another bright ‘wear it pink’.

BSC & ESL Teams

Welcoming ESL, Language Studies Abroad

Last week staff at British Study Centres Brighton, London and Oxford had the pleasure of welcoming eight ESL language travel consultants who spent a few days in the UK visiting our schools. ESL, a company specialising in language studies abroad with offices in Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Panama and the Czech Republic, is one of our most trusted and long-standing partners.

This familiarisation trip lasted three days and offered the ESL representatives a good insight into our schools. We had a good share of fun, too! At BSC we all fondly remember the delightful evening spent at a local British restaurant and, especially, the farewell dinner party at the luxurious La Malmasion restaurant in Oxford.

We all truly enjoyed having our colleagues around and look forward to our next meeting some time soon!

LVS Ascot

New Junior Centre Open for Business

We are pleased to announce that Licensed Victuallers' School Ascot will be open for business in July and August!

LVS Ascot located close to the world famous Ascot Races, will be our third summer vacation course centre for juniors aged 12-17 years.

Being located only 35 minutes by train from London Waterloo and just 6 miles from historic Windsor, LVS Ascot will provide our young learners with another great choice for their summer study plans!

The school itself boasts some excellent facilities including fully equipped classrooms, excellent sports centre and swimming pool together with comfortable accommodation and an excellent food service.

In addition to our general and intensive English courses, golf, tennis and not forgetting horse riding will all be offered as sports options in the afternoon. We think these courses together with the schools fantastic facilities and great location will make for an opportunity not to be missed this summer!

New Look For The BSC Blog

New Look For The BSC Blog

The British Study Centres blog is now sporting a brand new design, with a look and feel consistent with the main website and company branding. The design will better facilitate the new content planned for the blog, and improve usability.

A big thanks goes out to everyone who has submitted fantastic articles and content on the social programme, student activities, culture and other topics over the past few months. It is the contribution from staff and students that makes it worth reading! We hope to include more of these in addition to some new content such as the upcoming photo competition in the very near future.

Please check out the new design at www.british-study.com/blog and let us know what you think!
