Easter Courses for Juniors
The British Study Centres/ICH Easter camp for juniors got under way this week in brilliant spring sunshine. The camp is taking place at Ardingly College in the glorious Sussex countryside near Brighton. Students aged 10-15 years are enjoying a packed programme of morning English classes followed by afternoon activities. This week students have enjoyed table tennis, bench ball, swimming, sailing, bowling, badminton, tennis, basketball, dance, a quiz night, a disco, a half day trip to Tunbridge Wells, a full-day trip to London and a truly scary ghost tour of the college grounds. Never a dull moment! For more on our junior programmes, please click here.
Hannah Café Gets a Facelift!
Our London school launches its new improved café on Monday, 6 April 2009. The new catering manager is Eva. Eva has worked at British Study Centres London since the school opened as our Accommodation and Welfare Officer. She has now decided for a career change and to do something she loves, cooking! Eva and her new team will be offering a selection of specials, light snacks and refreshments every day at Hannah House. I can recommend her wonderful cooking and I know the students will love the new café. Come and visit us soon and try for yourself!
Red Nose Day
Staff at BSC Brighton school raised over £500 on Friday March 13th for the Comic Relief Charity. As part of the 'Red Nose Day' celebrations, Christian Tiplady, the Academic Director, was brave enough to be sponsored to have all his hair shaved off. Indeed many of the staff and students came in fancy dress to celebrate the day and other staff members volunteered for the traditional 'custard pie in the face' which the students enjoyed enormously.
The £500 will be donated to the UK Comic Relief Charity who help many national and international causes. Our congratulations to all involved!

London School's 5th Birthday
Staff at British Study Centres today celebrated the school's fifth birthday in style with Champagne and with sunshine streaming through the front door. It has been an eventful five years for the school which opened with 8 students in February 2004 and has expanded every year since opening. Today the school is home to over 200 students and 30 staff. April 2009 will see the opening of a new floor, the school's fourth, and a new suite of six classrooms. 'We're hoping the next five years will be just as exciting!' commented Managing Director, Andrew Roper.

Snow!
The south of England saw the heaviest snowfalls for 18 years last week (2 February 2009). It was a very strange and beautiful experience for us to wake up to over 30 cms of thick snow! It was the first time many of us had such had levels of snow and we took full advantage of this winter wonderland. Students and staff in Brighton built snowmen in the garden and staged an impromptu snowball fight. We will probably have to wait another 18 years to do the same...
New Floor for BSC London
BSC London is continuing its expansion with the refurbishment of the first floor of its premises, Hannah House. The new floor will give the school more office space and a further 6 classrooms, making a total of 19 year-round classrooms spread over four floors. The new floor will open in April 2009 and will be a handsome addition to the already well-equipped school with its large university-style library, 70-seater café, 36-seater internet zone and language learning lab.
