Continuing from last week’s article on the top 10 things you must do in Brighton, here we bring you numbers 6 to 10. Have fun, or, as we say, knock yourself out! (not to be taken literally!)

#6

Wander through the famous Lanes
Walk of the Lanes

If you’re looking forward to shopping, then the Brighton Lanes offer a shopper’s paradise of independent shops and boutiques. Rivalling the famous areas of London shopping like Portobello Road this is truly a unique place to pick up some trendy designer clothes.

Once the heart of the fishing town of Brighthelmstone (the original name of Brighton) the Brighton Lanes’ historic quarter is a fabulous maze of twisting alleyways and cobbled pavements offering an extraordinary mix of antiques and jewellery shops nestling alongside specialist contemporary and designer boutique fashion.

Crammed with quaint and wondrous shops and funky restaurants and cafes, the Brighton Lanes are best wandered lazily and explored as you find them.

You’ll often find musicians livening up the streets, making the Lanes a great place for the shopper to grab a coffee and soak up the history of Brighton to the sounds of some live jazz.

#7

Take a ghost tour of The Lanes
Ghost Tour

A night out that you’ll never forget. Take a walk of the haunted old Lanes of Brighton with your haunting guide and storyteller. The Lanes occupies what was once the original fishing settlement of Brighton – it is the oldest part of the city and, unquestionably, the most haunted. You will visit seven haunted sites and hear eight ghostly tales associated with them. The walk is performed by actor and master storyteller Rob Marks in full Victorian costume. For £3.00 do not miss out!!

#8

Sing your heart out with karaoke at King & Queen

Every Tuesday is Karaoke night at our famous old pub, the King & Queen. This has been a Brighton institution for years and the students seem to love it even more than the locals. Enjoy a night out with the staff and fellow students singing……or screaming…your favourite songs!!

#9

Catch the Volk’s Railway along the coast to the marina

Opened in 1883, Volk’s Electric Railway is the ‘world’s oldest electric railway’. The brainchild of inventor Magnus Volk, the railway runs for just over a mile along the Brighton seafront between Brighton Pier and Black Rock (the Marina). Take a trip along the coastline to the Marina and enjoy a drink at one of the many wonderful bars and restaurants they have to offer, before catching the Volk’s railway back to Brighton.

#10

Take a trip to Devil’s Dyke and the East Sussex countryside
Sussex Countryside

Devils Dyke is an historic beauty spot on the South Downs Way, just one mile outside of Brighton. It is named after the huge dry valley that carves its way through the rolling chalk grassland of the Downs. The Dyke offers stunning views of Brighton, the English Channel and the surrounding areas offering 360 degree views. Great for picnics, bike rides, walking and flying a kite. With colourful wildlife and beautiful views of the South Downs, the East Sussex countryside has much to offer. There are other fantastic, popular walks in the county and the country paths of the South Downs offer some of the best cycling in the country. This visit is an absolute must!
