The Busiest Time Of The Year, July And August…
It’s a great time to be in a language school because you meet so many new people and you can make so many friends. It is a good time to work in a language school as well. There are so many extra staff and students and conversations to have. It really is great fun.
For us at BSC summer begins in April. This is when many students decide to come and study with us and we start to receive many bookings for students wanting to study here in July and August. For the next few months, we receive hundreds of bookings and it is hard work to process all the bookings and maintain our excellent standards to our customers. However, I think we do this every year and keep our customers happy.
The accommodation department then starts to receive many bookings. The job of the Accommodation Officers is really important because we have to offer good quality accommodation to our students. The accommodation team work tirelessly to find new accommodation and maintain the standards of the accommodation providers we currently work with. It is a hard job!
After all the bookings, the accommodation details and three months of really hard work, July arrives. All of a sudden, the number of students in the school increases massively in size. This summer, we had over 320 students in July and August studying every week and in some weeks, more than 350. Usually, we have 220 students outside of the summer. We employ extra staff in student services. We employ extra teachers to help with the demand. We employ staff to run our excellent summer social programme. It is a big operation.
And now we come to the last week of August, the end of the summer. Some teachers and student services staff are leaving this week and will be missed even though they have been here a relatively short time. Things start to return to normal. Our student numbers begin to fall to our average number, the school is not quite so busy. This is when some of the staff, after a very tiring few months begin to have their holidays to recover from the summer!!! What will I do? Well, I am going on holiday next week for a rest. But I will be back on September 7th with my batteries re-charged and ready to meet our new students and continue to look after our other students. And I am sure the planning for summer 2010 will begin again very soon!!! Why not come and visit one of our schools next summer to see for your self what happens?
