London English School Activities – Tower of London

Bookmark and Share

Last Friday Claudia and Alex took the students to one of the famous sights in London, the Tower of London. As far as activities go the Tower of London is quite far from the English Language School which is located near Baker St. The Tower of London is actually in east London, east of the financial district called ‘the city’ or ‘the square mile’. But that’s no problem, because Baker St metro station (underground) makes is very easy to get everywhere. You can be at the Tower of London within 20 minutes from British Study Centres…

So what’s this Tower of London….? There’s too much to explain here, that’s what the tour is for! But the Tower of London is where the British crown jewels are kept (including the queen’s crown). It’s a ‘must see’ tourist destination while in London, like the Colloseum in Rome. Most British people, however, think of the Tower of London as a prison for enemies of the government and the royal family, hence the phrase “sent to the tower” which is used when someone’s been naughty. During the years the Tower has been used to print money, conduct execution and torture, and even as an observatory! The students visited the White Tower, which was meant to terrify Londoners and foreign invaders, the jewels, the medieval palace, and the ravens, (legend says that Britain would fall if the six ravens ever leave the tower), plus more as well. There are plenty of tours around the Tower, and according to Claudia it is one of the best activities on the London English School programme.
