Public Holidays 2012

We open for classes on Tuesday 3 January 2012. We are closed on the following public holidays: 6 & 9 April, 7 May, 4 & 5 June, 27 August 2012. No refund is made for classes scheduled to take place on these days. We will be closed from 22 to 30 December 2012. We will re-open for classes on Monday 31 December 2012.

Accommodation Information

  • Arrival & departure information: arrivals on Saturday or Sunday before course start date and departures on Saturday or Sunday following course finish date. If you wish to arrive before or stay after this, please contact the school for accommodation availability before booking your flight. For charges, please see Booking Conditions.
  • Student houses and residences in Oxford: arrivals on Sunday and departures on Saturday only.
  • Before booking your flight please note that students are expected to arrive at their accommodation between 8am and 10pm. Arrivals after 10pm may not be possible, please check with the school first. Late arrival fee may apply for homestay and student house bookings.
  • For shared rooms only one accommodation finding fee is payable (when 2 students booking together only).
  • Student houses, residences and self-catering homestays are only available for students who are over 18 years old.
  • For student houses and residences a refundable deposit of £150 is payable.
  • If you are applying for a student visa, your accommodation will not be confirmed until the visa has been granted. We require notification of visa confirmation at least 10 days before arrival, otherwise we cannot guarantee your first choice of accommodation will be available.
  • Our schools will be closed from 22 to 30 December 2012. Students wishing to leave their belongings at their accommodation over the Christmas period will be asked to pay 50% of the standard weekly rate. For accommodation prices, please see the table above.
  • Overnight guests are not permitted.
  • We take our responsibility for younger students very seriously so if a student is under 18, we will endeavour to ensure that:
  • We only provide half-board homestay accommodation. The student is treated as part of the hosts' family and they eat together every evening.
  • They return home by 11pm Monday - Thursday and 12pm on Friday & Saturday. Otherwise, our hosts are instructed to contact the school immediately and the school may contact the police to report them missing.
  • They provide written permission from their parents one week before should they wish to stay out overnight or go on an overnight trip.
  • If a student under 18 does not come to class, the teacher will tell the school office immediately and the school will try to contact the student immediately.

Insurance

Before you arrive in the UK, we strongly recommend that you take out insurance for your own financial and personal security. You can take out your own insurance or take out the International Student Policy offered by Endsleigh Insurance Services Limited which has been specially designed for overseas students studying in the UK.

The International Student Policy covers repatriation, baggage, course fees, legal expenses; personal money, passport and documents; cancellation or curtailment charges, emergency medical expenses, personal liability.

Prices quoted are for one way, one person trips. For each extra student sharing a taxi to the same address: +£20, for each extra student sharing a taxi to a different address: fee x1.5.

Booking Conditions

Conditions of Enrolment

  • Minimum age for students on all our programmes is 16. British Study Centres does not take responsibility for the supervision of 16 & 17 year old students out of lessons or out of scheduled activities.
  • All course fees must be received before the course starts. Sometimes it can take several days for the money to arrive if you send it through the banks. It is your responsibility to make sure that it arrives in time. All bank and PayPal charges must be paid by the students.
  • The school reserves the right to refuse admission to any student or to dismiss any student in the event of misconduct or unsatisfactory attendance or timekeeping or work, without refund of fees.
  • Travel, examination fees and the costs of social activities are not included in the fees.
  • No liability is accepted by the school for loss of property or damage to property. We strongly recommend students to take out insurance to cover their possessions, as well as medical insurance for themselves.
  • We reserve the right to cancel or alter a course or to change course timings. If we do so, we will offer an alternative course or a refund.
  • Holiday allowance: 1 week per 12 weeks studied.
  • Students should arrive Saturday or Sunday at their accommodation. For students wishing to arrive on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, one full week's accommodation charge will apply. For students arriving from Thursday onwards a nightly rate will apply (weekly rate divided by 7). All midweek arrivals are subject to availability and may not be possible year-round – please check before booking.
  • We will confirm courses on the basis of receiving a deposit of £250.

Amendment Charges

  • An administration fee of £25 will apply for students wishing to change their course.
  • For students wishing to change school location, e.g. from London to Oxford, a second registration fee will not be charged. However, students wishing to book additional accommodation will be charged a £45 accommodation finding fee.
  • Students wishing to move to another British Study Centres school will not gain credit if changing to a school with lower fees.
  • Once the course has started students can upgrade the number of lessons per week but cannot downgrade it.

Cancellation Charges

  • If a course is cancelled more than 1 week before the start date, there is a £50 administration charge. If accommodation has also been arranged, there is an additional accommodation finding fee of £45.
  • If the course is cancelled less than 1 week before the start date, there is an administration charge of £50. If accommodation has been arranged, there is a cancellation charge of the accommodation finding fee plus one week's accommodation charge.
  • If a course is cancelled less than 24 hours before the course starts or after the student has started there is no refund in any circumstances. If the course is longer than 4 weeks, a credit will be given for the unused part of the course after 4 weeks. This may be used within one year and cannot be transferred to another student.

 

  • If homestay or student house accommodation is cancelled after a student has arrived at the accommodation, two weeks' notice must be given, or two weeks' accommodation charge paid. If a student requests to change accommodation, an additional accommodation finding fee will be charged. If a student decides to leave the accommodation and asks for a refund, this will be possible for those weeks remaining as long as two weeks' notice is given.
  • Students wishing to extend their accommodation must give 2 weeks' notice. We can not guarantee the availability of the same homestay. A £45 accommodation finding fee will be charged in the event that the same accommodation is not available and an alternative must be found.
  • If a student cancels a residence, fees will not be refunded.
  • If a student cancels a course because they are unable to get a visa and they can provide written evidence of this from the relevant Embassy or Consulate, we will make an administration charge of £50, but we will refund all course fees. Accommodation charges apply as above.

Force Majeure

  • In the event of 'force majeure' such as fire, flooding, infectious diseases and other events outside the company's reasonable control which may cause the closure of the school, no refund of fees will be made to students, except at the school's discretion in exceptional circumstances.
