Please Note

Classes for beginners do not run all year round, please check before booking. Each group lesson lasts the equivalent of 50 minutes.

Public Holidays 2010

We open for classes on Monday 4 January 2010. We are closed on the following public holidays: 2 & 5 April, 3 & 31 May, 30 August. No refund is made for classes scheduled to take place on these days. We will be closed from midday 24 December 2010 - 3 January 2011. We will re-open for classes on Tuesday 4 January 2011.

Accommodation Information

  • Arrival & Departure information: arrivals on Saturday or Sunday before course start date and departures on Saturday or Sunday following course finish date.
  • Student houses in Oxford: arrivals on Sunday and departures on Saturday only.
  • If you wish to arrive before or stay after this, please contact the school for accommodation availability. For charges, please see Booking Conditions.
  • Before booking your flight please note that students are expected to arrive at their accommodation between 08:00 and 22:00. Arrivals after 22:00 may not be possible, please check with the school first. Late arrival fee may apply for homestay and student house bookings.
  • For shared rooms only one accommodation finding fee is payable (when 2 students booking together only).
  • Student houses, residences and self-catering homestays are only available for students who are over 18 years old.
  • The minimum age of our students is 16. For students under 18, both British Study Centres and the host have an extra duty of care to ensure the student's safety and welfare. When a student is under 18, the host will ensure that the student abides by the following evening curfew times: Sunday to Thursday: Students must be home by 23:00. Friday & Saturday: Students must be home by 24:00.
  • For student houses a refundable deposit of £150 is payable.
  • Overnight guests are not permitted in student houses.
  • If you are applying for a student visa, your accommodation will not be confirmed until the visa has been granted. We require notification of visa confirmation at least 10 days before arrival.

Insurance

Before you arrive in the UK, we strongly recommend that you take out insurance for your own financial and personal security. You can take out your own insurance or take out the International Student Policy offered by Endsleigh Insurance Services Limited which has been specially designed for overseas students studying in the UK.

The International Student Policy covers repatriation, baggage, course fees, legal expenses; personal money, passport and documents; cancellation or curtailment charges, emergency medical expenses, personal liability.

Booking Conditions

Conditions of Enrolment
  • All course fees must be received before the course starts. Sometimes it can take several days for the money to arrive if you send it through the banks. It is your responsibility to make sure that it arrives in time. All bank charges must be paid by the students.
  • The school reserves the right to refuse admission to any student or to dismiss any student in the event of misconduct or unsatisfactory attendance or timekeeping or work, without refund of fees.
  • Travel, examination fees, coursebooks and the costs of social activities are not included in the fees.
  • No liability is accepted by the school for loss of property or damage to property. We strongly recommend students to take out insurance to cover their possessions, as well as medical insurance for themselves.
  • We reserve the right to cancel or alter a course or to change course timings. If we do so, we will offer an alternative course or a refund.
  • Holiday allowance: 1 week per 12 weeks studied.
  • We will confirm courses on the basis of receiving a deposit of £250.
  • Students should arrive Saturday or Sunday at their accommodation. All midweek arrivals are subject to availability and may not be possible year-round. Please check for availability and rates before booking.
  • In case of errors with the online booking system, British Study Centres reserves the right to settle financial discrepancies on the first day of your course. We will, however, confirm the price offered within 3 working days of an online booking.
Amendment Charges
  • An administration fee of £25 will apply for students wishing to change their course.
  • Once the course has started students can upgrade the number of lessons per week but cannot downgrade it.
  • For students wishing to change school location, e.g. from London to Oxford, a second registration fee will not be charged. However, students wishing to book additional accommodation will be charged a £45 accommodation finding fee.
  • Students wishing to move to another British Study Centres school will not gain credit if changing to a school with lower fees.
Cancellation Charges
  • If a course is cancelled more than 1 week before the starting date, there is a £50 administration charge. If accommodation has also been arranged, there is an additional accommodation finding fee of £45.
  • If the course is cancelled less than 1 week before the start date, there is an administration charge of £50. If accommodation has been arranged, there is a cancellation charge of the accommodation finding fee plus one week's accommodation charges.
  • If a course is cancelled less than 24 hours before the course starts or after the student has started there is no refund in any circumstances. If the course is longer than 4 weeks, a credit will be given for the unused part of the course after 4 weeks. This may be used within one year and cannot be transferred to another student.
  • If homestay or student house accommodation is cancelled after a student has arrived at the accommodation, two weeks' notice must be given, or two weeks' accommodation charge paid. If a student requests to change accommodation, an additional accommodation finding fee will be charged. If a student decides to leave the accommodation and asks for a refund, this will be possible for those weeks remaining as long as two weeks' notice is given.
  • If a student cancels a residence, fees will not be refunded.
  • Students wishing to extend their accommodation must give two weeks' notice. We cannot guarantee the availability of the same homestay. A £45 accommodation finding fee will be charged in the event that the same homestay is not available and a new homestay must be found.
  • If a student cancels a course because they are unable to get a visa and they can provide written evidence of this from the relevant Embassy or Consulate, we will make an administration charge of £50, but we will refund all course fees. Accommodation charges apply as above.
Force Majeure
  • In the event of 'force majeure' such as fire, flooding, infectious diseases and other events outside the company's reasonable control which may cause the closure of the school, no refund of fees will be made to students, except at the school's discretion in exceptional circumstances.
